The band formed in 2000 as a rock trio. Mark
and Erik Kniffin are brothers
who have been refining their blues and improvisation-based style together since
their teenage years in Baltimore.
They began recording in earnest after working with drummer, Oren
Glazer, who tightened their sound with his steady and distinct rhythmic approach.
Oren moved to California in late 2006.
Kate Norton worked as back-up singer from 2005-2007, adding a strong lyrical quality
to the Scratch album.
Drummer Heidi Moesinger joined
in May 2007, adding her own creative sound to the project, and began studio work
with the band in 2008.
Julia Hillabrant joined in 2009, bringing her talents in both bass and acoustic
guitar to recent performances.
The band continues to refine its sound, blending more acoustic material with their staple, improvised sound.
